Tracking Coral Growth and Bleaching with Computer Vision

About the project

This project aims to explore how computer vision could turn repeat photos of tagged coral fragments into automated growth and health records. Growth is currently measured by hand, and bleaching isn't tracked per fragment. Possible goals include estimating fragment size using an in-frame reference object for scale, and scoring bleaching by comparing fragment color to a reference health chart. The team can shape the focus between measurement and classification based on their backgrounds and interests.
